LAMAR HIGH SCHOOL - ELECTRONIC BOOK FAIR--

You can't get much easier than a school book fair that happens in the comfort of your own home or office. It's been tested and it works...now all we need is for you to make your selections while the Lamar PTO and designated Lamar groups reap the benefits!

(1.) You MUST log on to Lamarhspto.org website first (Lamar will only receive a discount from orders made through our website) in order to reach Amazon.com's link.

(2.) Click on the Amazon.com icon (above) and it will take you to the Amazon.com website in order to make your purchases (your order can include books, cd's, etc.)

(3.) Follow the Amazon directions and complete your order. There is no confirmation that your order has been credited to Lamar. The PTO has, however, tried this procedure and Lamar does receive credit. Amazon sends a report listing all Lamar website purchases.

Your purchases will direct 4% of your total purchase directly into the Lamar PTO account. Remember, electronic book ordering through Amazon.com is not limited to Lamar families - please tell relatives, friends and contacts about our ongoing Electroic Bookfair for Lamar High School PTO. It works all year round so go as many times as you like. Need to buy a birthday present, send something to grandpa, buy Aunt Lucy a surprise..it can all be done here!

You will be kept updated monthly on how much money has been donated to the Lamar PTO through your purchases with Amazon.com

Welcome to our PTO Website. By visiting this website, you will discover what is happening at Lamar and how you can share in your child's education.

Cordially,

DeAnn Englert
PTO President 2007-2008

May 13,2008

Dear Parents,

The end of the 2007-2008 school year is rapidly approaching! The seniors and juniors are taking IB exams through May 23 and senior finals begin May 22. Grade level finals are May 23 and May 27-29 (Monday is Memorial Day Holiday). May 29 is the last day of school and senior checkout. Graduation is June 1 at 5:00 PM at Reliant Stadium.

I am very excited to announce the new PTO Executive Board elected at the PTO General Meeting in April. The officers are as follows:

President--Cynthia Lange

Vice-President--Lynnette Mafrige

Recording Secretary--Dawn Fournier

Corresponding Secretary--Christy Wade

Teasurer--Doug Culver

Parliamentarian--Liz Holmes

Historian--Laurie Sellers

An Ad Hoc Committee has been appointed to meet throughout the summer to study the PTO By-Laws and make recommendations. The members of this committee are: Mona Sandhop, Sarah Ballanfant, Ann Blackwood, Liz Holmes, Ann Culver, Cynthia Lange, and DeAnn Englert.

Congratulations to the Class of 2008! We are very proud of our graduating seniors who will attend a variety of colleges in the fall including Duke University, USC, Howard University, Princeton, Vanderbilt, Stanford, University of Texas, Harvard, Brown, Washington University to name a few.

Lastly, thank you for the opportunity to serve as your president this year. Our Executive Board could not have done it this year without the 1,031 VIPS parent volunteers who have served tirelessly for our Lamar students. We appreciate our volunteers more than you will ever know.

Have a wonderful summer!

Sincerely yours,

DeAnn Englert

MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT!

Please give the PTO a gift this year and sign up at Randall’s for the Good Neighbor Program.  This is an easy task.  Please take your Remarkable Card and the Good Neighbor form to the courtesy booth.  The form can be downloaded from this website.  Please fill in the charity number:  Lamar High School PTO 11772.  Your remarkable card will be coded.  From now on, every time you make a purchase, Lamar PTO will receive 1% of the amount.  Get your family members and neighbors to do the same thing and we’ll really be able to make an even greater impact.

Next time you visit Lamar HS, please take a moment to check out the beautiful banners displayed in the hallways. They reflect the International and Cultural Awareness of our International Baccalaureate World School. The artwork was created by five Lamar Diploma Programme visual art students, and the eighteen statements are paraphrased extractions from the Houston ISD Graduate Profile, the IB learner Profile, and 40 Developmental Assets. The banners serve as visual reminders of the values that are essential for our students' growth and success in a global community.

Lamar staff have been busy reorganizing office space to create a more efficient and user friendly environment for students and families.  The new Parent Information Office is located in Room N110.  Guests must sign in this office rather than the Main Office located on the second floor.  If you are unclear as to where to go or who to see, this is the place to go for help.

We now have 360 PTO members.  Please be as generous as you can with your dues and participate in PTO activities in whatever way your schedule allows.  Also, use your Kroger, Randalls, and Central Market Cards every time you shop.  If you need a card, please stop by the PTO office.
