Sophomores and Juniors:  It is time for the National Honor Society to accept new members.  To be accepted by NHS you must have at least a 3.7GPA and no “P”s or “U”s in conduct during your time in high school.

In order to find out your GPA you may go to the Registrar’s office, to the Family II office or to N215 to check the list of published GPAs for sophomores and juniors.  These three locations will have copies of the recently published GPA list for sophomores and juniors.

If your GPA is at least a 3.7 you may apply for membership in NHS.  In order to apply to NHS you must pick up an application in any of these three locations, fill it out and turn it in to N215  later than Friday, February 12th at 4pm.     NO LATE APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED.  You must have your teachers’ signatures so remember to get started on your application ASAP so that you will be finished by Friday, February 12th.

Lamar High School now has a  Virtual Learning Community. Our new “Moodle” is part of an ongoing effort to communicate with students, and our use of Moodle will continue to evolve. Click here for more information: Moodle-Virtual Learning Community

The PSConnect Web site offers access to grades and attendance as teachers enter data in their online gradebooks. Please go www.houstonisd.org and click on PS Connect.

The Oxford University Summer Program

July 17 – August 7, 2010

The program is available for interested IB juniors and is hosted by St. Hugh’s College. Academic instruction is provided by members of Oxford University, and students receive Oxford tutorials from members of the university in a subject of their choosing. Participation in the summer school greatly enhances a student’s academic resume. Students can earn a Certificate of Participation and letters of recommendation from St. Hugh’s College. The summer school offers a unique opportunity for intellectual growth through interaction with tutors, lecturers, teachers, and peers. Academic work is made more enjoyable and memorable through coordinated lecture topics, discussions, excursions, and cultural experiences. The summer school receives an overwhelmingly positive response from students, parents, teachers, and high school administrators. The cost of the summer school is well below that of any other summer program in Oxford yet offers more. Students have their own rooms (with facilities) at St. Hugh’s College. International Baccalaureate Diploma Candidates (IBDC) may study their TOK or Extended Essay topics. IBDC’s can also earn CAS hours. Please contact Jon Mallam, 713-522-5960 ext 331 if you are interested in this program or if you have further questions.
